چکیده

Esophageal stenting has been shown to be a convenient and long-lasting method of palliation for malignant dysphagia.1 Use of covered self-expandable metal stents (SEMS) and, more recently, self-expandable plastic stents (SEPS)2 has led to increased success rate in the palliative treatment of malignant strictures of the esophagus. Experience with SEPS is scant. We report our experience with the use of stents, especially SEPS, for relief of malignant dysphagia.

ایمنی و تأثیر استنت‌گذاری در انسداد بدخیم مری: یک مطالعه آینده‌نگر

Abstract: Background: Palliative procedures in esophageal cancer to restore swallowing are preferable to major surgery in most cases. The aim of this prospective study was to provide further information on treatment techniques, complications, and survival in the patients with malignant esophageal obstruction undergoing endoscopic palliative therapy using Self-Expanding Metal Stents (SEMS). Ma...

Palliation of malignant esophageal obstruction and fistulas with covered self expandable metallic stents: assessment of a simple fluroscopic method.

PURPOSE To introduce a convenient, quick and effective way to place self-expandable metal stents (SEMSs) to relieve dysphagia and fistula caused by esophageal carcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS A consecutive series of 36 patients (25 men, 11 women), aged 38-82 years (median, 52.7 years) underwent stent placement using a 7F long sheath of 55 cm and fully covered SEMS under local anesthesia with ...

Fixation of a modified covered esophageal stent: its clinical usefulness for preventing stent migration.

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS Membrane-covered self-expandable metal stents are effective in preventing tumor ingrowth and stent obstruction in patients with inoperable esophageal cancer, but migration of stents continues to be a major problem. We therefore constructed a modified covered self-expandable esophageal metal stent capable of being fixed using a silk thread. The stent was studied prospec...

Esophageal Stent for Cervical Esophagus and Esophagogastric Junction

Tumors in the cervical portion of the esophagus have traditionally been more difficult to manage. The implantation in the cervical esophagus is a technically demanding procedure. The implantation of modified self-expandable metal stents (SEMSs) was very effective perorally under endoscopic and fluoroscopic guidance. Experience with SEMS has revealed an increased risk of migration when either co...

Subclavian artery-esophageal fistula after placement of a self-expanding metal stent in a patient with esophagogastric anastomosis stenosis

Background: There have been reports on stent-related vascular erosions about patients with benign or malignant stenosis of the esophagus who received endoscopic stent insertion for palliative intention for oral intake. Case presentation: A 61-year-old woman with esophageal cancer located in the middle part of esophagus was treated with esophagectomy. Two years following the surgery, malignan...
